Find your gas assistance options

Five questions, a ranked plan, and the exact words to use on the phone.

Last verified 28 October 2026 Takes about a minute No sign-up, no personal details

How this works

Answer five questions and this page builds a ranked action plan for your situation — which programmes you most likely qualify for, the number to call, what to bring, and the sentence to say when someone picks up. It also works out your household income as a percentage of the 2026 federal poverty level, which is what most programmes decide on.

Everything runs inside your own browser. Nothing you enter is saved, sent, shared or seen by us. There is no account, no email field, and no submit button that goes anywhere. You can print the result and take it with you.

Five questions, a plan you can print

This tool asks about your situation, not your identity. It works out your income as a percentage of the 2026 federal poverty level, then ranks the programmes most likely to help — with the number to call and the sentence to say.

  • Runs entirely in your browser
  • Nothing is saved, sent or shared
  • No name, email or phone number requested

Why there is no application form here

No legitimate organisation can approve gas assistance through a third-party website, and sites that collect your income and contact details for “gas card applications” are usually selling leads or running a scam. We will never ask for your name, address, phone number or any identifying information. This tool tells you where the real applications are, and you apply directly with the agency.

Step 1 of 5
How soon do you need fuel?

This changes the order of your plan. Same-day help is small and local; programmes that pay more take longer.

Please choose one

Pick the option that fits best so the plan is ordered correctly.

What is the fuel for?

Fuel help is targeted. This is the single biggest factor in which programmes will say yes.

Please choose one

If nothing fits exactly, choose general hardship.

Do you have Medicaid?

Medicaid non-emergency medical transportation is a mandatory benefit and can pay mileage or issue gas vouchers. It is the most reliable repeat help in the country, and many members do not know they have it.

If you are unsure, choose no.

Your household and state

Used only to calculate your percentage of the federal poverty level, in your browser. Leave income blank if you prefer not to enter it.

Optional. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Seven states have programmes documented in enough detail to add to your plan. All states are covered here.

Your plan

Before you set off

Call first. Nearly every programme here is funded locally and can run out of money without notice, and some open for only a few hours a week. Ask whether they have funds now, whether they take walk-ins, and what to bring.

Fastest route

If you need gas today, start with one phone call

2-1-1 is free, confidential and usually answered 24 hours a day by a trained specialist who can see which agencies near you still have funds this week. It is the single most useful number in this whole subject.

Ask for it by name: say “gas voucher” or “transportation assistance”, not “financial help”. Many agencies will not mention fuel unless you ask.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this a real gas assistance application?

No, and no third-party website can be. This tool works out which programmes fit your circumstances and tells you exactly where and how to apply, but the application itself has to be made directly with the agency — by phone or in person in almost every case. Anyone offering to submit a gas assistance application on your behalf through a web form should be treated with suspicion.

Do you store or sell my information?

No. This page has no server component at all. The questions are answered in your own browser, the calculation runs in JavaScript on your device, and nothing is transmitted, saved or logged. There is no name field, no email field and no contact field anywhere on this site, by deliberate design.

Why do you ask for my income?

Only to calculate your household income as a percentage of the 2026 federal poverty level, because that single figure determines eligibility for most programmes — 200% is the most common cutoff. The field is optional and you can skip it; the rest of the plan still works. The number never leaves your device.

What if my state is not in the list?

Your plan will still be built from the national programmes, which is most of what matters. Only seven states currently have programmes documented in enough detail for us to add state-specific steps, because publishing a state page without verified local information produces exactly the thin filler this site exists to avoid. Every state and DC has an entry page with its community action network and programme names.
